User Types

By default, Consequence comes with 8 user types:

Special Users

Administrator

The built-in user for new installations. This user has permission to perform every operation in the tool. Your regular users should have separate accounts with the appropriate user types, and this user should be reserved for making project configuration changes.

Consequence Client

The other special user, this user should only be logged into by the Consequence Client app to manage data flow to and from your project.

Development Users

Lead Writer

Lead Writers can set Draft lines to Approved, edited Approved lines or strings without changing their status, and perform all other operations in the tool except triggering a sync of audio.

Writer

Writers have similar permissions to Lead Writers, but if they edit Approved lines or strings, the status will be changed back to Draft, and they cannot Approve lines or set them to Final.

Audio

Audio users have similar permissions to Writers, except that they cannot edit Approved lines or strings, and lines they write or edit are set to Needs Review status, but they can run the Sync Audio operation, and they can also move Approved lines to the Final writing status (usually to indicate that final recording of an approved line has been completed).

Developer

Developer users are able to add new lines and strings, edit and add rules, leave comments, and play audio, but lines they write or edit are set to Needs Review status, they cannot edit approved lines or strings, and they cannot run the Sync Audio operation. This user type should be used for all non-writers on the team who may be writing first versions of lines or strings, intended to go through future writer review.

View Only

View Only users can search and view all data in Consequence, but cannot make changes. This user type is usually reserved for QA, Localization, Production or other teams that need visibility, but are not editing data.

No Access

This user type is reserved for new users who have signed up for an account that has not yet been activated by an administrator, or for former users who have had their login privileges revoked. No Access users cannot log in or perform any other operations.
