Note: see Audio Workflow for more information about how Audio teams can work with Consequence, including more details on the Sync Audio operation.
The Recording Status of each line or string indicates where in the recording process the line's audio is. Different user types have permissions to change lines between different recording statuses, and these rules can be reviewed by any user in the Settings → Line Transition Rules page.
Note: your administrator can configure the permissions for different user types to moves lines between the recording statuses below. The descriptions on this page reflect Consequence's default settings.
In general, the Recording Status for a line or string (strings may sometimes be recorded for accessibility purposes, e.g. to permit audio previews of game menus) will flow in this order:
Default state for all lines.
We have intentionally marked this line that we are planning to record Scratch VO, aka temp VO, text-to-speech, or VO from the team -- not final actor VO, and hence we expect the audio files to be uploaded to engine some time soon.
We have received new audio for a file that was either marked Unrecorded or Recording Scratch, and have set it to Scratch VO automatically. In most cases, this won't be the final audio, unless someone forgot to mark the lines as Recording Final prior to uploading the audio files from a real VO session for those lines.
We have scratch VO for a line, but the line has been rewritten and a user has marked the line Re-Record Scratch to indicate that when possible, we should re-record the scratch VO for this line.
Same as Recording Scratch, but for the final actor VO: we have intentionally marked this line that we are planning to record Final VO, aka actor VO, and hence we expect the audio files to be uploaded to engine some time soon.
We have received new audio for a file that was marked Recording Final, and have set it to Final VO automatically. This should be the final actor's VO except in any very rare cases where we need to rewrite a line after it's been recorded by a professional actor.
Just as with "Re-Record Scratch", this status indicates that someone (likely an Audio user or QA) has identified a problem with a Final VO line and it needs to be re-recorded. It should be placed in this state until we've set up a session to re-record the line, at which point we can export it for recording and put it back into "Recording Final" state until the new version of the audio is uploaded to engine.
