The Writing Status of each line or string indicates where in the production process the line is. Different user types have permissions to change lines between different statuses, and these rules can be reviewed by any user in the Settings → Line Transition Rules page.
Note: your administrator can configure the permissions for different user types to moves lines between the writing statuses below. The descriptions on this page reflect Consequence's default settings.
In general, the Writing Status for a line will flow in this order:
Either a process (like the Event Generation wizard) or a non-writer user (e.g. a Developer) added a line. It should be reviewed by a Writer, and is marked as Needs Review to make it easy to find.
A Writer either wrote this line or edited it, and it was set to Draft automatically, or they reviewed it and set it to Draft manually. In future it should be reviewed by a Lead Writer.
A Lead Writer (or empowered Writer user) has been through an approval process and set this line to Approved. This implies that it is ready for recording. Once in this state, non-Writer users cannot change the line or string. If Writer users change the line, it will be set back to "Draft". Lead Writers may edit lines in Approved status without modifying the status.
This line may have been recorded already, and a Lead Writer or Audio user has marked as Final to reflect that it should not be unintentionally changed. Once in this writing status, lines may not be changed by any user type. If a Lead Writer wishes to change a line, they must first set the status back to a non-Final status (i.e. Approved or Draft). The intent of this status is to make it impossible for non-Lead users to change lines, and also make it impossible for Lead Writers to accidentally change a Final line.
